The latest official signal
Bangladesh Bank's July 2026 credit-card report says domestic credit-card transactions were Tk 43,248 million, down 3.05% from Tk 44,610 million in June. Transactions on Bangladeshi cards outside the country fell 5.05% to Tk 9,847 million. Cards issued abroad and used in Bangladesh fell 3.00% to Tk 2,343 million.
A one-month decline is not proof that Bangladesh ecommerce demand contracted by the same amount. The report covers credit cards across retail outlets, utilities, cash withdrawal, pharmacies, clothing and other categories. It excludes COD cash, most mobile-wallet activity, bank transfers and orders that were returned or cancelled.
What the figures do suggest
The data argues against assuming uninterrupted month-on-month spending growth. Sellers carrying imported or discretionary items should model a softer month as well as a growth case. At the same time, the report notes retail-outlet credit-card spending increased from Tk 4,710 million in June to Tk 4,879 million in July, showing that category and channel movements can diverge inside the total.
The correct business question is not 'Are cards up or down?' but 'What share of my completed orders uses cards, and does that share behave differently by product and location?' A store with 90% COD orders should not rebuild inventory solely around card statistics. A higher-ticket electronics seller with installment/card dependence should monitor them more closely.
Build a payment dashboard
Track attempted orders, paid orders, delivered orders, refund value and gateway failure rate separately for COD, wallet, card and bank transfer. Compare weekly cohorts, not just checkout selections. A card order is not revenue until payment settles; a COD order is not revenue until delivery and remittance are confirmed.
Calculate payment-adjusted contribution margin: selling price minus product cost, discount, gateway fee, packaging, delivery subsidy, expected return cost and fraud loss. This reveals whether a promotion that increases card orders also improves profit.
Use security policy as a trust signal
Bangladesh Bank's March 2026 credit-card guidelines require issuers to ensure two-factor authentication for ecommerce and domestic non-NFC transactions and real-time SMS and email alerts. Merchants still need secure gateways, transparent refund language and minimal collection of card-related data; the bank rules do not transfer all responsibility away from the seller.
A 30-day action plan
First, reconcile payment method against delivered status for the last 30 days. Second, identify products with unusually high failed-payment or return rates. Third, show payment options and refund timing clearly on product and checkout pages. Fourth, negotiate gateway and courier terms using actual completed volume, not order submissions.
Use DokanEasy order tags or exports to keep payment and fulfilment states distinct. Never publish customer card details, screenshots or personally identifiable transaction records in reports.
Bottom line
July's card total softened from June, while retail-outlet card spending increased. That mixed picture supports cautious cash-flow and stock planning, not a headline that ecommerce is either booming or collapsing. Pair national data with your own delivered-order evidence.
