Use current courier terms
Pathao’s help page updated 21 May 2026 states a 1% COD charge for deliveries and a return charge equal to 50% of delivery cost, except Dhaka metro returns. Pathao’s public courier page shows some location-specific differences, so merchants should use their own contract and route.
Steadfast’s terms say it does not charge for return parcels. That does not make a return free: packaging, blocked stock, original delivery handling, support and damaged goods may remain.
Contribution margin formula
Delivered contribution equals selling price minus product cost, packaging, outbound courier, COD fee, discount, advertising allocated to the order and expected warranty/refund cost. Returned contribution is usually negative and should be modelled separately.
Multiply each outcome by its real share: delivered, customer-refused, unreachable, damaged and cancelled-before-dispatch. Never insert an industry return percentage from an unsourced blog as though it were your store’s rate.
A simple control system
Confirm address and product variant, send a clear total, record consent, dispatch quickly and make tracking visible. For high-risk or customised items, a lawful, clearly disclosed advance may reduce exposure; refund terms must be stated before payment.
Review return reasons weekly. Fix misleading photos, sizing, late dispatch or weak packaging before blaming customers. Compare couriers by route and delivered cost, not only advertised base price.

Limitation: charges and contracts change. Verify current rates directly with the courier and obtain legal advice for category-specific return or advance-payment obligations.
