Internet-banking transaction value reached Tk1.84 lakh crore in June 2026, up 6.22% from Tk1.73 lakh crore in May, according to a Bangladesh Bank report summarized by The Daily Star on 9 September 2026. That is a useful digital-finance signal, but it is not an ecommerce sales total.
Why the number is broader than online shopping
Internet banking includes corporate transfers, account-to-account movements, bills and other financial activity. A rise in transaction value can reflect larger transfers rather than more retail orders. It also does not capture all COD, card, MFS or social-commerce transactions.
Therefore, the evidence supports a narrow conclusion: digital bank channels handled more value in June than May. It does not establish which products sold most, how many online buyers purchased, or whether a particular store grew.
What sellers can infer carefully
Customers and businesses are increasingly comfortable moving money digitally, so bank-transfer instructions, payment confirmation and reconciliation deserve better design. Higher-value B2B orders may also benefit from a documented bank-transfer route.
At the same time, Bangladesh Bank requires two-factor authentication for online, ecommerce and card-not-present transactions, as described on its payment systems page. A store should never ask customers to share OTPs.
A merchant measurement plan
Track payment choice, authorization success, time to confirm, refund time and cancellation rate by method. Separate order value from payment volume: one large bank transfer should not be interpreted as many buyers.
Run a four-week checkout test with COD, personal or merchant MFS where permitted, and bank transfer. Keep product, traffic source and discount consistent enough to compare completion rather than raw clicks.
Business action
Offer clear transfer instructions, unique order references and a defined refund policy. Reconcile payments daily and restrict staff access to statements. A hosted store such as DokanEasy can centralise order records, but the merchant still owns reconciliation and fraud controls.
Data limitation: the cited monthly change is payment-system activity, not verified ecommerce GMV, buyer count or product ranking.
