DokanEasy vs Shopify: Audit the App Stack, Not Just the Base Plan

Why the app stack matters
Shopify combines a strong core platform with a large app ecosystem. That flexibility is a major advantage: a merchant can add specialized COD forms, inventory forecasting, loyalty, international selling and warehouse tools. Shopify’s official pricing page also warns that third-party transaction fees may apply when merchants use providers other than Shopify Payments, depending on plan and country.
Apps can be free, usage-based or recurring in foreign currency. A Bangladesh seller therefore needs to compare the complete stack: plan, payment provider, essential apps, messaging, domain, courier connector, theme work and staff time. Do not treat a free-to-install label as proof that normal usage will remain free.
A concrete COD example
The Shopify App Store currently lists Neo COD Form & Upsell, launched by a Dhaka developer in May 2026. Its listing advertises a COD form, partial payments, OTP verification, fraud blocking, abandoned-cart recovery and multi-platform tracking. The listing also discloses access to sensitive customer and device/activity data. That is useful capability, but merchants should review price tiers, privacy terms and permissions before installation.
DokanEasy’s different value proposition
DokanEasy’s public plans bundle Bangladesh-focused functions. The free plan advertises 50 products, 100 monthly orders, COD, personal bKash/Nagad and no platform transaction fee. Starter advertises a custom domain, inventory/POS, SMS and Pathao/Steadfast APIs; Growth adds Meta Pixel/catalog sync, abandoned-cart tools and staff permissions. Confirm current inclusions on DokanEasy pricing.
The defensible advantage is fewer moving parts for a Bangladesh-first workflow, not universal feature superiority. Shopify remains stronger when a business needs a particular mature app, deep international merchandising or a broader developer ecosystem. Public DokanEasy pages do not document every edge case, so ask support rather than assuming a feature is absent.
Build a 12-month cost sheet
List each required outcome—not product names: COD confirmation, courier booking, analytics, abandoned cart, staff permissions, returns and exports. Record setup fee, monthly fee, usage fee, foreign-exchange cost and the customer data each component receives. Add a 20% contingency for messages, app upgrades or higher order volume.
Then test removal. If an app is uninstalled, determine what data, theme code or workflow remains. Export products and orders before major changes. A cheap stack that creates lock-in or inconsistent customer data can cost more later.
Decision rule
Choose Shopify when ecosystem breadth solves verified requirements worth the added complexity. Choose DokanEasy when the documented local workflow covers the operation and a BDT-priced, more integrated stack reduces overhead. Run both against the same 20-order scenario before deciding.
