IDC’s 2026 smartphone outlook forecasts contraction for the overall smartphone market while describing foldables as a growth pocket, with the category expected to grow about 20% year over year. Read the dated IDC forecast as a forecast, not completed sales.
Why accessories can benefit
New form factors create demand for model-specific cases, hinge protection, inner-screen care, stands, chargers and car mounts. Early buyers may also spend more on protection for expensive devices.
But the addressable base remains much smaller than conventional smartphones, and compatibility is unusually fragile. A case for one generation or hinge design may not fit the next.
Product filters
Require exact model numbers, folded and unfolded dimensions, hinge clearance, wireless-charging compatibility and material specifications. Do not describe a protector as suitable for the inner folding display unless the manufacturer explicitly supports that use.
Avoid unsupported durability promises. Product photos should show the actual item, camera cutout and hinge area. Ask suppliers for batch samples because tolerances can vary.
Inventory strategy
Start with a shallow assortment around models officially sold in the target market. Use pre-orders or waitlists for uncertain variants. Measure search, add-to-cart, paid order, return reason and device model separately.
Bundle low-risk universal products—quality chargers or stands—only after checking power and dimension compatibility. Keep model-specific cases lean and reorder from paid demand rather than views.
Seller action
Create model selectors and a prominent compatibility warning. A store on DokanEasy can organise variants by device generation and record return reasons. Growth in global foldable shipments is an opportunity to test, not permission to overstock.
Data limitation: IDC’s figure is a worldwide forecast; it does not prove Bangladesh unit sales, accessory conversion or profitability.
