A useful product shortlist is not the same as a national bestseller chart. Public marketplaces show what is offered and promoted, while an individual store’s records show what its customers buy. This worksheet helps a new Bangladesh seller connect those two kinds of evidence before paying for a large stock order.
Start with categories, not a guaranteed winning product
The Daraz Bangladesh storefront presents electronics, fashion, beauty, home and other categories, along with campaign promotions. That demonstrates an active assortment and merchandising choices; it does not publish an audited daily unit-sales ranking for all Bangladesh. Campaign pages can remain indexed after a sale has ended, so their visibility is not proof of a current promotion.
Pick three products you can source responsibly and explain clearly. Record the target customer, use case, landed cost, delivery constraints and reason to choose your offer. A broad category such as fashion is too vague for a purchasing decision. A specific product with known dimensions, materials and replenishment time can be evaluated.
Build an evidence sheet with a date column
For each idea, record two current retailer listings, the exact model or size, displayed price, stock status and warranty or return terms. Note whether a review belongs to that variant and when it was posted. A hundred older reviews may reflect years of availability rather than recent momentum. Treat seller labels such as popular as claims whose methodology may be unknown.
Add customer questions from your own enquiries. Separate requests for price from questions about availability, delivery area and the ability to pay now. Count repeated questions once per person. Keep public social attention in another column. Neither video views nor marketplace placement should be entered as completed sales.
Use a contribution test before a stock test
Illustrative calculation: a product sells for BDT 900 and costs BDT 500 to procure. If packaging, unrecovered delivery, payment costs and advertising total BDT 250, contribution is BDT 150 before fixed costs and tax. If an additional BDT 170 is lost on an unsuccessful parcel, it takes more than one such successful sale to cover that loss. Replace every number with your own quote.
Estimate a normal case and a return-heavy case. Include supplier minimum order quantities and the time cash stays tied up. A fragile item with an attractive markup may be less suitable than a modest-margin product that survives delivery and can be replenished quickly. This is an operating assessment, not a forecast of guaranteed profit.
Validate with a small, transparent offer
Create a complete product page using photos you own or are licensed to use. State what is in stock and what is a preorder, with realistic timing. Test a small batch or collect clearly labelled expressions of interest without pretending they are paid orders. Log actual deliveries and reasons for cancellation. Set a spending and inventory limit before the experiment begins.
At the end, decide to replenish, revise the offer or stop. A useful result may be learning that customers need a smaller pack or better instructions. Do not continue solely because a competitor advertises heavily; its spend and profit are unknown. Use our product-page checklist when preparing the test, and keep the evidence sheet as a repeatable purchasing discipline.
