A COD store should choose software around successful deliveries, not the number of orders entered. A low subscription can still accompany expensive returns, while a larger software bill may be justified by a required integration. This guide focuses on a Bangladesh merchant selling physical products domestically; it is a cost worksheet rather than another general platform ranking.
The verified difference that changes the calculation
Shopify’s manual-payment documentation includes cash on delivery and says manual payments do not attract third-party transaction fees. Do not apply an online-gateway percentage to a COD-only store. The subscription, any chosen apps and courier charges still need budgeting.
DokanEasy’s public offer advertises COD, a Free plan with 50 products and 100 monthly orders, and 0% platform transaction fees. Its Starter plan lists local courier APIs. These are published plan claims, not evidence that delivery itself is free. Shopify’s advantage may be an app your operation requires; confirm the actual Bangladesh integration rather than assuming it is absent.
Use delivered orders as the denominator
Create a monthly worksheet with subscription, required apps, paid messaging, packaging, outward shipping, return charges and COD collection costs. Deduct any shipping charge actually recovered from customers. Divide the resulting operating cost by delivered, retained orders. Keep product cost and advertising visible in separate columns so a software comparison does not hide the main losses.
Illustrative arithmetic, not a provider quote: suppose a shop dispatches 100 parcels, keeps 80 completed sales and incurs BDT 6,000 in combined operating costs. The cost is BDT 75 per retained sale, not BDT 60. If the same costs support only 60 retained sales, it becomes BDT 100. Neither platform choice fixes this automatically; the example shows why delivery outcomes matter.
Test the workflow that your team will use
Ask each provider to demonstrate one COD order, an address correction, a cancelled order before pickup and a returned parcel. Check when stock is reserved and restored, how duplicate orders are handled and whether the courier status reaches the store. Record manual steps with the same staff member on both platforms. We have not measured comparative speed or failure rates.
Reconcile a completed parcel against the courier statement. Confirm which party collects the shipping charge, when money becomes available and how a return appears in the report. A dashboard marked delivered and a bank settlement are different records. If you need an app or custom connection, include its cost and support responsibility in the proposal.
When each option deserves a shortlist
DokanEasy merits a test when your catalog fits its quotas and its advertised domestic workflow matches your couriers. Shopify merits a test when a specific supported app or operating requirement creates enough value to cover the bill. For a COD store, the decision should turn on actual workflow and fixed costs rather than an inapplicable transaction-fee claim.
Before subscribing, compare one ordinary month and one return-heavy month. Keep copies of plan terms and ask what happens when you exceed an order quota. Use our broader DokanEasy–Shopify comparison for the payment and international-selling context. This worksheet adds a narrower operational test; it does not establish a universal winner.
