A store platform holds more than a product catalog. Orders, customer records, images, redirects and payment references can become important when you change systems or need an independent backup. Comparing portability before subscribing is easier than discovering an incomplete export after the business depends on it. This guide evaluates the evidence available, not an unsupported claim that either platform makes every migration effortless.
What Shopify documents clearly
Shopify’s product-export documentation describes exporting products to CSV. Its separate backup and duplication guide explains that different information requires different handling. A product CSV should not be assumed to reproduce the entire operating store, its theme and all historical activity. Documented export procedures are a useful Shopify strength.
The DokanEasy public offer emphasizes a free entry plan and local payment and courier workflows. Those can make a small domestic-store trial practical, but they do not by themselves establish export coverage. For this review, a complete public field-level DokanEasy export specification was not verified. Ask for a sample and test it; do not interpret an unverified specification as proof that export is unavailable.
Inventory the records you would need elsewhere
Create a list with product identifiers, variant options, prices, stock quantities, images and categories. Add order IDs, dates, item-level totals, discounts, shipping, refunds and fulfilment status. Decide which records are needed for accounting, customer service or a possible migration. Avoid exporting personal data merely because it is available; keep a defined purpose and appropriate access controls.
Record which system is authoritative for each field. A courier may hold settlement details that the storefront does not, while a payment provider may hold refund references. Even a strong storefront export cannot replace records held by those services. Keep the links between order, parcel and payment identifiers intact in any migration plan.
Ask both providers for the same acceptance test
Request a sample containing a product with two variants, a cancelled order and a partial refund where supported. Inspect whether the exported values remain intelligible without the dashboard. Compare totals with the source records. Ask about date formats, character encoding, image access, export limits and permission controls. This proposed test was not performed for this article.
Then test importing a small, non-sensitive catalog sample into the destination or a controlled working copy. Check image availability, SKU preservation and variant mapping. A file that downloads successfully may still require transformation. Agree on who performs that work, how duplicate records are prevented and how the original data will remain recoverable.
Choose with an exit plan, not an assumed lock-in story
Shopify’s published procedures reduce uncertainty about some export tasks. DokanEasy deserves consideration where its verified local operating fit and entry offer match the shop’s needs, subject to the same portability questions. This is not evidence that one platform offers a complete backup or that the other locks merchants in. The right conclusion depends on the required records and an actual sample.
Before a domain move, map existing URLs, confirm domain ownership and plan redirects and a final stock reconciliation. Keep the old store available until the agreed checks pass.
