Choosing a hosted ecommerce platform is a decision about how your business will operate after launch. A polished theme matters, but so do payment eligibility, staff permissions, stock control and the effort needed to move your data later. Shopify, BigCommerce, Ecwid and Wix address overlapping needs. DokanEasy brings a Bangladesh-focused option into that comparison. The useful question is which operating model fits your customers and team.
What “multi-tenant ecommerce” means in this comparison
Here, the phrase describes the buying category of vendor-managed store-building services used by many independent merchants. It is not a claim that we audited each provider’s database isolation or infrastructure. It also differs from a multi-vendor marketplace: a merchant’s own storefront is not automatically a marketplace with seller commissions, vendor onboarding and split settlements. If those are your requirements, evaluate a marketplace solution separately.
At a glance: start with your operating requirement
Shopify — Published capability to examine: Online store, apps, Markets and POS options; Main decision question: Which country, payment provider and extra apps will you need?
BigCommerce — Published capability to examine: Multi-storefront options and GMV-based plan rules; Main decision question: How will provider fees and sales thresholds affect your bill?
Ecwid — Published capability to examine: Store embedding and plan-based catalogue limits; Main decision question: Are you adding commerce to an existing website?
Wix — Published capability to examine: Visual site building and multilingual commerce; Main decision question: Does the checkout and fulfilment workflow fit your target markets?
DokanEasy — Published capability to examine: Bangladesh payments, courier workflows and plan allowances; Main decision question: Is Bangladesh-focused retail your immediate priority?
Shopify: evaluate the complete app and payment setup
Shopify’s official pricing and feature comparison lists unlimited products, integrations, regional selling features and in-person selling options, with capabilities varying by plan. Country-specific payment availability and additional services deserve attention. The pricing page can display different currencies and regional terms, so a single headline subscription price is not a universal quote.
Our assessment: include Shopify in your shortlist when you want to assemble a store around its ecosystem and can budget for the exact integrations required. Before committing, list every app you expect to install, its recurring cost, who supports it and what happens if you remove it. Test your refund and reporting workflow with the actual payment provider you can use.
BigCommerce: sales thresholds and payment providers change the calculation
BigCommerce’s official plan comparison currently lists Core at US$39 per month or US$29 per month billed annually. It also documents GMV thresholds, automatic plan upgrades and an Open Payment Provider fee: 2.0% on Core, 1.0% on Growth and 0.6% on Scale for eligible orders. Embedded providers are treated differently; these platform fees are separate from payment processing. Additional storefronts have plan-specific charges and limits.
Our assessment: put BigCommerce on the shortlist when multiple storefronts or a more involved operating model justify a detailed implementation review. Forecast both ordinary trading and a successful sales period. A platform can become more expensive because revenue crosses a threshold even when the product catalogue stays unchanged. Use the vendor’s GMV definition rather than your own accounting shorthand.
Ecwid: a practical candidate for an existing website
Ecwid’s official plan guide documents store embedding and four paid tiers. Product allowances are 10 on Starter, 100 on Venture, 2,500 on Business and unlimited on Unlimited. Business also lists multilingual capabilities and two staff accounts. Ecwid’s March 2026 pricing notice lists Venture at US$35 monthly or US$29 per month on annual billing, excluding tax; billing country determines currency.
Our assessment: Ecwid deserves a trial when an existing website already works and you want to add a store rather than rebuild everything. Check the combined experience across product pages, checkout, analytics and navigation. A convenient installation is only the beginning: confirm that catalogue limits, variants, languages and staff access match the store you intend to run.
Wix: connect design flexibility to cross-border operations
Wix’s official cross-border commerce guide describes multilingual storefronts, language-based localisation, international payment options, cross-border shipping and tax tools. That establishes a useful feature shortlist, not automatic eligibility for every payment method in every country. No single regional subscription quote is used here.
Our assessment: consider Wix when storefront presentation and broader website content are central to your requirements. During the trial, complete a realistic mobile purchase in each important language. Ask which tax and shipping functions need configuration or paid services. A translated homepage alone does not prove that the checkout, confirmation messages and returns experience are ready for another market.
Where DokanEasy fits
DokanEasy’s published plans positions the service around Bangladesh retail, local payments and courier operations, with a free entry tier and paid product/order allowances. This makes it a relevant candidate for sellers prioritising local fulfilment. It should not be assumed to match another provider’s international payment coverage, B2B model or app ecosystem without testing those requirements.
Use the same trial for every shortlisted platform
Prepare a small test catalogue with a simple product, a size-and-colour variant and an out-of-stock item. Create staff accounts with different responsibilities. Place, cancel, refund and partially fulfil sample orders where supported. Export products, customers and orders and inspect whether identifiers, variants and financial fields remain usable. Record any manual steps.
For cost planning, add subscription, paid apps, theme work, domains, payment processing, platform order fees and implementation effort. Then model the cost per successfully delivered order. Keep courier losses and refunds visible instead of treating placed orders as collected revenue. These are evaluation recommendations, not performance measurements of any vendor.
The decision: choose the workflow you can verify
There is no evidence-based universal winner in this review. Shortlist Shopify for its published ecosystem, BigCommerce for its multi-storefront options, Ecwid for embedding commerce and Wix for its website-and-commerce toolkit. Consider DokanEasy where Bangladesh-focused operations fit your immediate needs. Choose only after the same test orders, export checks and twelve-month cost model have been completed on the relevant plans.
